Missions (A series of singleplayer/co-op game modes). They take the role of Darth Vader and face waves of Rebel troopers inside Echo Base (similar to the singleplayer Hero Battles). When the game first installs on the system, players have the opportunity to play a mini-game as it is loading. Classes are not featured in the game, for the player is able to freely customize their weapons, character, Star Cards and hands, and traits. DICE based the game's AI on the Star Wars films, but tweaked it to make it accessible. Each player is outfitted with a partner, and the duo are able to spawn on each other and share loadouts. Players are able to play as hero and villain characters such as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Instead of a single-player campaign, the game features a set of co-op missions that can be played alone, online, or offline with split-screen. The game has the option to switch at will between first-person mode and third-person mode, much like the previous entries in the series. Instead, it reinterprets the stories and battles presented in the original trilogy, alongside some battles presented in the novel Battlefront: Twilight Company such as the Siege of Inyusu Tor. Unlike previous Battlefront entries, this game does not have a story of its own. Fight in epic Star Wars battles on iconic planets and rise through the ranks playing as the heroic Rebellion or the evil Galactic Empire. Considering that the game is also on sale on both Steam and GOG for a fiver, it looks like it’s a good time for some classic multiplayer. Star Wars: Battlefront is getting long in the tooth - it is a 16-year-old game, after all - but players appear to be leaping into the classic online shooter with gusto as Steam Charts shows a 73% uptick in player concurrency in the last 30 days, hitting a 24-hour peak of 462 players, which is very near its all-time peak of 509 players. The online multiplayer portion of the game was shut down in 2014, however, as the service provider Gamespy closed up shop. If you’re among those who are eager for some classic multiplayer shooting action, you can maybe do no better than the original Star Wars: Battlefront from 2004, which once more allowed online multiplayer in a recent update, along with support for a variety of new languages and menu and gameplay fixes for a variety of different screen sizes.įor those who don’t remember, the original Battlefront, which launched in 2004, provided large-scale online battles with up to 64 players in a single match.
